CoreTechnologie launches new version of 3D_Evolution™
CoreTechnologie (CT) releases the latest version of the leading 3D CAD interoperability software “3D Evolution” which is now more effective due to enhancement of the simplification tool, updates to the latest reading of interfaces of all CAD systems and more robust conversion of features.
“We are proud to introduce the 2013 version of 3D_Evolution. Several improvements have been made to the software that continues to drive the interoperability space. Most notable is the ability to write CATIA files without the need of CAA interop or CATIA API’s. CT has continued to add more in-depth reading of additional information from the binary file, without the need to access the CAD API. This has added the ease of implementation into PLM applications in a multi-CAD environment. ” said Gauthier Wahu CTO of CT.
Beyond the creation of exact Brep envelope solids the 3D_Evolution Simplifier process can, now also generate mixed geometry: tessellation and/or accurate, to get a scale model size while keeping critical parts. Additionally, thanks to the new shrink-wrap, file sizes are reduced dramatically when tesslated formats are needed. By selecting the user-defined exact forms (cone, cylinder, pyramid, plane, torus, convex polyhedron, or concave polyhedron), the process can remove and replace the original geometry with an extremely simple representation. The calculation can be done manually or automatically by isolating some model parts.
New functionality includes:
• Increased support of reading pipes and publications in CATIA V5
• Improved CADDS files attributes and pipes reading
• Migration from Linked 3D annotations to related geometries
• Improved migration between 3D models and 2D drawings and their annotations
New reading Interfaces:
• CATIA V6 2012 R211 (B-rep and Feature) files
• Pro / ENGINEER files Creo 2.0 M040 with sketch constraints (B-rep and Feature)
• Inventor 2013 files (B-rep)
• SolidWorks 2013 (B-rep and Feature) files
• Siemens NX8.5 files (B-rep and Feature)

Airbus selects CoreTechnologie for validation of data archiving for A350 XWB
Frankfurt, Germany –May 2013, Airbus has selected CoreTechnologie as the preferred vendor to validate the 3D STEP AP242 data for LOTAR (Long Term Archival and Retrieval).
Airbus chose this approach for its new A350 XWB (Xtra Wide-Body) aircraft that will be introduced in 2014.
Airbus and CoreTechnologie participate in the LOTAR consortium. The objective is to develop standards for long-term archiving and retrieval of digital data, such as 3D CAD and PDM information which allows data to be read and used again throughout its life cycle, regardless of environmental changes in computer applications used. LOTAR recommendations stipulate that archived files must first be validated to ensure the accuracy of the data for future use. Gauthier Wahu, CoreTechnologie’s Chief Technical Officer stated “We are excited to implement these standards for such an impressive company like Airbus. This joint venture was instrumental in the last release of CoreTechnologie’s flagship software product; 3D_Evolution™, which now includes a fast and reliable validation function for STEP AP242.”
Concretely, validation is based on data and properties included in the STEP file provided by the native system, in this case CATIA. These validation properties of the model primarily relate to PMI, assembly, visualization data, volume, surface and center of gravity. After importing the STEP file, 3D_Evolution’s™ validation tool, computes its properties and also compares them with values provided in the original file. Reporting functions allow measured deviations to indicate variances in the file, thus allowing the user to correct the file prior to archiving.

Pointwise and CT Core Technologies Partner for Native CAD Readers
FORT WORTH, TEXAS (2 April 2012)—Pointwise announces that the ability to read computer aided design (CAD) files in the recently released Pointwise Version 17 software for computational fluid dynamics (CFD) mesh generation is based upon technology licensed from CT Core Technologies.
“CAD data interoperability is a serious and well-known impediment to the timely and successful application of CFD,” said John Chawner, Pointwise’s president. “That’s why we wanted to add readers for native CAD formats to Pointwise – to give our customers more options for importing geometry for meshing. After extensive research into the available technology, including use of three other products, we selected the 3D Kernel IO libraries from CT Core Technologies to provide this important capability.”
Native CAD readers for ACIS, CATIA V4, CATIA V5, NX, Parasolid, Pro/ENGINEER, SolidWorks, and STEP are bundled with Pointwise and complement the previously available IGES import. Working without a license of the CAD software, the readers import CAD data directly into Pointwise’s geometry kernel, bypassing the possibly error-inducing step of creating a neutral file. The native CAD readers work seamlessly with Pointwise’s Solid Meshing technology and can automatically assemble solid models during the import process, the models providing a means of ensuring watertight geometry and mesh.
“CT Core Technologies is excited to provide 3D Kernel IO reading capabilities to Pointwise customers worldwide, giving an interoperability solution that is independent from all CAD applications,” said Gauthier Wahu, CTO of CT Core Technologies.
“Our partnership has assisted both companies to mitigate cost of implementation, as well as enhancements of the 3D Kernel IO product. The synergy and culture of these two companies combined will continue to create unparalleled advantages in the marketplace,” said David A. Selliman, vice president of North America Operations.
Also included in Pointwise Version 17 are an advanced implementation of the company’s T-Rex (anisotropic tetrahedral extrusion) hybrid meshing technique, the ability to group entities for ease in selection and manipulation, the ability to easily re-extrude grids generated with the software’s traditional style extrusion methods, the option to restrict application of grid algorithms to a portion of the overall grid using subgrids, updated exporters for several CAE formats, and much more.
Pointwise, Inc. is solving the top problem facing engineering analysts today – mesh generation for computational fluid dynamics (CFD). The company’s Pointwise and Gridgen software generates structured, unstructured and hybrid meshes; interfaces with CFD solvers, such as ANSYS FLUENT, STAR-CCM+, ANSYS CFX and OpenFOAM as well as many neutral formats, such as CGNS; runs on Windows (Intel and AMD), Linux (Intel and AMD), and Mac, and has scripting languages that can automate CFD meshing. Bridging the Gap between CAD and CAE
“In this global market, Multi-CAD (Computer Aided Design) environments are becoming a standard. For CAE analysts doing finite element analysis, their world revolves around a CAD/CAE iterative cycle of model, mesh, analyze, and manually update models based on CAE results; then repeat. Integrated CAD and CAE applications with associative update, together with automatic meshing algorithms, have reduced the amount of time users have needed to perform these iterations. Even so, roadblocks still occur. Between receiving the CAD model from design engineering, and execution of a meshing algorithm, CAE analysts overwhelmingly report the need to do MODEL CLEAN UP. www.cpd-associates.com
